During the golden age of Wonder Woman comics, in the ’40s, writers made conscious efforts to integrate various women professionals into the narrative (which many believe have inspired little girls of the era towards STEM). So, we had women politicians, writers, human rights activists, suffragists, nurses, doctors, and scientists walking into the script. Many times, the writers illustrated stories of how female scientists and doctors rose over overt sexism and hostility from male colleagues; used their intelligence, determination, and strength of will to achieve their goals. In an interview with The Verge, a Wonder Women author Sam Maggs spoke about relevance and importance for girls to find role models in female scientists. Maggs, a video game writer, and the author made a particular effort to include women from all backgrounds and races, to get the point across that all women deserve recognition for their work.
